Camp Ma Kee Wa

Posted by Hannah on Sunday, March 27, 2011.

This weekend I have been on Pack Holiday/Brownie Camp with the Brownies and Guides. We went to Ma Kee Wa near Orangeville (about an hour outside Toronto) and we had a blast! Saturday afternoon was spent tobogganing down a big hill near the barn we were staying in and I couldn't resist joining in, going down the hill in inflatable tires, sleds, and surf boards!

On Saturday morning we went on a walk around the camp site and found the Enchanted Forest. The story goes that the forest is filled with fairies, pixies, elves etc and they built a toadstool deep within, but then they got scared and now they are hiding.
We did see some other magical things in the forest though...

THE TOADSTOOL

ONE OF TWO WOOD CARVED OWLS WE SAW IN THE TREES

WOOD CARVED SQUIRREL PEEKING OUT THE TREE STUMP

TOTEM POLL

ANIMAL TRACKS IN THE SNOW

Whilst out we also saw a red tailed hawk land and actually catch its dinner! Pretty cool!

Sounds lovely! I've never been to Orangeville, but it sounds like you had a wonderful time.
I saw a red tailed hawk on the weekend too! Hamilton is actually a birdwatching hotspot - many migratory birds pass through the bay and there is a surprising amount of wilderness around the city, providing a large habitat. If you're into that stuff, I suggest checking out a trail or two.
